We offer partial mod (LPF-1 for Low pass filter) for all Canon and other cameras with a dual-filter system, starting from the Canon 400d.
The first filter in the light path is part of the piezo anti-dust system and functions as an anti-infrared filter. The second filter is bluish and largely blocks the transmission of Ha photons.
During the modification, the LPF-2 is removed and replaced with nothing. All anti-infrared filtering relies on filter No. 1, which may result in some chromatic aberration on bright stars. If you want to avoid this phenomenon and achieve maximum quality, you need to enhance the filtering of filter No. 1 by adding the 4'Astro filter that drastically cuts near-infrared in place of the LPF-2.
Nevertheless, with relatively well-corrected optics, this modification is sufficient to access the Ha line under good conditions in an economical solution.
Since the optical path is modified, we recalibrate the sensor to maintain AF and infinity focus with all lenses.
